I’m Helen, a later in life diagnosed Autistic and ADHD counsellor. I am now in my 40's and life has had many highs, crashing lows and everything in-between. First and foremost, I'm mum to two teenage boys, from whom everyday, I learn something new about this crazy thing called life.
Whatever has brought you to counselling, we can explore and face it together. Perhaps you’re feeling misunderstood, lost or stuck? You might be exploring your identity, navigating gender or sexuality, or dealing with loneliness and burnout. You may be living with anxiety, low mood or Pre-Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), facing relationship challenges, or feeling overwhelmed by a diagnosis, whether it’s new, upcoming or still in process. Whatever it is, you don't have to face it alone.
During our sessions, my Person-Centred approach keeps you at the centre of our work. You'll experience a calm, patient, empathic and non-judgemental space where you can rediscover your direction and choose solutions which feel right for you. Over time, clarity, self understanding and confidence grow and you'll begin to move forward in a way that feels grounded and true to who you are, even when life has felt too much.
My approach is rooted in authenticity, empathy and a lived understanding of neurodiversity. As a later in life diagnosed AuDHD counsellor, my hope is that you feel genuinely understood if you’re overwhelmed, isolated or struggling; I’ve been there too. I’m open to sharing parts of my own experience if it helps you; sometimes hearing “I get that too” makes all the difference.
I've always been fascinated with Counselling, Mental Health and Psychology and my journey towards becoming a counsellor was needing counselling myself.
I threw myself wholeheartedly into my sessions, as I wanted to understand me; I slowly began to discover and understand who I really was. My personal counselling led me to gaining a First Class (Hons) Degree in Person-Centred Counselling, studying Psychology, training in Somatic Therapy and writing a literature review on The Physiological and Psychological effects of Forest Bathing (Shinrin-Yoku), which helps me pay attention to, and understand, the link between mind and body.
I’ve supported adults, couples, children and families for many years and my experience includes working in a local Boys High School, offering counselling through an Employee Assistance Programme, and I have been a guest speaker at the University of Lincoln on Neurodiversity and Counselling.
Outside of work, I’m at my happiest outdoors. I love woodlands, horses, my garden, quiet nights in and the calm presence of animals, especially my rescue cat Louis. My garden is where I recharge and breathe and my dream for the future is to live a simple and quiet life near a forest, have chickens in the garden, a log burner inside with cats and dogs beside me.
